Bersa Handguns

Bersa Arms, an Argentine firearms company, was established in 1958 in Ramos Mejía, Argentina, near Buenos Aires by three Italian engineers:

  • Banco Bonadiman
  • Savino Caselli
  • Ercole Montini

The company’s name, “Bersa,” is partially derived from the first initials of the three founders. Initially, Bersa offered shotguns and .22 rifles but later focused on handguns, including the popular Thunder 380, Thunder Pro, and BPCC designs.

In its early years, Bersa focused on producing parts for other Argentine firearms manufacturers like Ballester-Molina, which made a clone of the M1911 pistol. Bersa’s first major product was the Modelo 60 .22 LR pistol in 1959, which was based on a modified Beretta design.

Over the following decades, Bersa expanded its product line, introducing models like the Modelo 90 9mm pistol in 1989, which became standard issue for the Argentine military and police. Bersa’s most successful line has been the Thunder series of .380 ACP and 9mm pistols introduced in 1995.

In recent years, Bersa has diversified beyond handguns, introducing an AR-style rifle and pistol line called the BAR series. The company also opened a 45,500 sq-ft manufacturing facility in Kennesaw, Georgia in 2022 to increase its presence in the U.S. market.
